Why support Steel City Men's Chorus?
Steel City Men's Chorus is Alabama's first and only sustained queer performing arts organization. We are pioneers in LGBTQ+ advocacy in the South, building upon the proud legacy of Birmingham's historic civil rights battles and advancements.
While others attempt political solutions, we appeal directly to the hearts and minds of everyday people. We perform an annual season of main stage shows and also sing and provide service throughout the community, partnering with organizations like the Birmingham Museum of Art, Alabama Holocaust Education Center, the Alabama Symphony, Baron's Baseball, Community Kitchens, H.U.B. and others to reach beyond the LGBTQ+ community with a message of inclusivity–all because we believe it's harder to hate people you actually know.
We are a small, highly efficient organization trying to do big and extraordinary things. We offer a wide variety of ways to help support this work. Thank you for considering us for your financial support.
Giving to our Over the Rainbow campaign supports the Chorus' annual fund, paying for expenses such as salaries, music licensing and royalties, venue rentals and everything else it takes to sing out for equality in Alabama and the deep South. This unrestricted giving, plus member dues, form the backbone of our $120,000 annual budget. All gifts exceeding $200 are recognized in our show playbills and higher donations earn additional benefits as shown in the chart below. Stars of Steel are our monthly budget balancers who make their contributions on a recurring basis and receive an extra playbill recognition.
