Longtime fans of Steel City Men's Chorus already know Jon for his beautiful tenor voice and smooth dance moves, but did you know he's also a nationally-recognized artist? Jon's paintings hang in galleries and homes across the nation. He's been featured three times at Tuscaloosa's famed Kentuck Art Show and received the Joe Piper Award of Distinction at Birmingham's Magic City Art Connection. If you haven't been lucky enough to see his work before, you will soon because Jon is doing the poster artwork for our Spring show, Heroes and Villains, which couldn't be more appropriate considering that Jon has a real-life superpower. Seriously!
Jon went professional as an artist in 2017, but two years later, he was attacked while leaving a local gay bar and left with a traumatic brain injury. Recovery was brutal, but in a silver lining to rival any superhero's origin story, Jon developed the ability to literally see the patterns and colors of music. So, when you see the poster for Heroes and Villains, know that every brushstroke was inspired by one of the songs from the show. We can't wait to debut it! And best of all, you'll have the chance to win it or a second piece he's doing for us at #NoFilter, our June cabaret and fundraiser.
